The cap, the classic wolf hat that suits all styles.
A quick glance at the collection and you will easily notice thatmost of our wolf hats are caps. Even though they were initially conceived to protect our eyes and head from the sun, a lot of people now wear caps throughout the year.
But did you know that not all the caps are the same? We are not talking about brands and color here but about the make.
Created in the 19th century this headwear has evolved in many different variants that you can find on American Wolves: trucker hat, baseball hat, 5 panels, snapback & more.
The visor of a cap, your hat's protection against the sun
The visor is ultimately the most useful part of the cap as it will protect the face from glare and sunlight.A cap without a visor is pretty much a docker's hat, which you probably started to notice more and more.
The visor has different points of difference, the main one being the curvature but there is also its length, the material, and the colors.
For the curvature, it's quite simple. Either it's curved or it's flat. You may have heard or read "dad hats" or "curve" as a name for a cap, it means that the cap's visor is curved.
The crown, unrelated to the TV show...
Since we are a wolf pack, there is only one Alpha so we can't be giving away royal crowns to just anybody.
The crown is the main element of the cap as it is the part that covers the head. It is also the most complex element to manufacture because it needs to be made in many variations.
The structure of the crown
The 6-panels wolf hat
6 panels of the same size that symmetrically embrace the visor, with the front seam right in the middle of the visor. An ultra-structured cap for the roundest possible shape. This is the case for most American baseball caps.
The "classic" wolf hat
The so-called "classic" crown consists of 5 panels, 4 of which are identical and a fifth one which practically takes the size of the whole front visor. This front panel is bent to give a "dome" effect to the cap. It is often the cap wrongly called "snapback". The classic crown and the 6-panels are variations of a similar structure.
The 5-panels wolf hat
5 totally different panels and a crown structure completely different from the previous ones with :
a front panel
2 lateral panels
a top panel
a back panel
This cap also known as the "Campers" was widely spread by Supreme. It tends to be less domed than the 6-panel or the classic one by fitting more the shape of the skull.
Now let's jump to the type of crowns you will mostly find onAmerican Wolves.
The trucker wolf hat
Based on a classic crown or a 6-panels crown, the trucker hat differs with 4 rear panels. This fabric is a mesh in a very airy plastic like a net. The trucker is one of the iconic caps of American culture. It was made popular by American truck drivers and farmers. It is ideal for summer since the "mesh" allows the scalp to breathe and less perspiration (the exact opposite of wolf fur).
The baseball wolf hat
It is, in fact, a classic crown with the curved visor. But on the top of the front panels, you will find what is called an eyelet: a small hole passing air inside and outside the cap.
The different way to fasten your wolf hat (caps)
Because caps are made OSFM or OSFW (One Size For Men/Women), there needs to be a way to adjust the hat to the person's head.
The cap has gained popularity thanks to its adaptability to all heads. This is only possible thanks to the "open" attachments, i.e. the snapback and the strapback. Otherwise, if you pick a fitted cap, you need to know your exact size.
The snapback is obviously the most popular attachment used on caps whether they are a baseball hat or a trucker hat.
The strapback may not be as popular as the system above but it is actually a more accurate version. It consists of a buckle and strap which is often in the same fabric as the crown, but it can also be made of leather. Note that on all 5 panels, this system often has a black strap with a plastic clip.
The wolf bucket hat, for the fashionistas out there
Also called fisherman's hat, the bucket hat features a wide, downward-sloping brim. It is usually made of fabric or canvas. Very practical, you can easily fold it to fit in any pocket.
It is a headgear used by glider pilots. They need to protect themselves from the sun while maintaining good visibility, especially because the visor of a cap would interfere too much with vision.
Bucket hats were also very popular among hip hop music artists in the 90s. They slowly come back into people's grace.
The wolf beanie or winter hat, the closest thing to wolf fur
For some people, the beanie is the classic and sober accessory that goes with everything and suits a great number of people. Just like many people wear a cap in winter, more and more people can be seen wearing a beanie in summer. (Yes there are hipster wolves among us).
If you're looking for an accessory in colorful tones and to brighten up a sober outfit, then this kind of headwear is for you. Available for both adults and children, beanies will efficiently protect you from the cold, thanks to its thickness and the warm material they are made from.
